Our Services
We offer a comprehensive range of services to support coffee farmers and cooperatives in achieving sustainable success.
Farmer Financing
At Ndugu Coffee, we recognise the financial challenges that local farmers face. To address this, we provide access to trade financing, ensuring that farmers have the necessary funds to sustain and grow their operations. In 2023 alone, we provided over $700,000 in trade financing to cooperatives. This financial support empowers farmers to invest in better farming techniques, purchase quality inputs, and ultimately increase their yields. By prioritising farmer financing, we ensure that farmers are not left at the mercy of exploitative buyers and can negotiate from a position of strength.
Product Facilitation
Our product facilitation services are designed to streamline the journey of coffee from farm to market. We assist farmers in adopting advanced production techniques, which has led to impressive yield increases, such as growing coffee yields to over 13,563 tonnes. By connecting farmer cooperatives with aggregators, we foster a network rich in shared knowledge and resources, ensuring that the coffee produced meets high-quality standards. This comprehensive support system helps farmers achieve better market positioning and profitability.
Farmer Traceability & Certification
Traceability and certification are crucial in ensuring the sustainability and marketability of coffee. At Ndugu Coffee, we have enhanced the traceability of over 6,393 farmers and mapped 9,220 gardens. We also work diligently to certify farmers, with over 4,413 farmers achieving Rainforest Alliance (RFA) compliance. This certification not only validates the sustainable practices of our farmers but also opens up premium markets that value certified, traceable products. Our commitment to traceability ensures transparency in the supply chain, building trust with consumers and buyers.
Digitising Transactions
In the modern agricultural landscape, digitising transactions is essential for efficiency and transparency. We have implemented systems to digitise transactions, making it easier for farmers to track sales and payments. This digital approach minimises the risk of errors and fraud, ensuring that farmers receive their due payments promptly. By embracing technology, we streamline operations and provide farmers with tools that enhance their financial literacy and business management skills.
Youth Employment
Agriculture is the backbone of Uganda’s economy, contributing roughly 70% of employment opportunities. Furthermore, as a country with a very youthful population, there is a need to create more opportunities in the sector along the value chain. At Ndugu, we organise various youth activities and training sessions to facilitate knowledge acquisition and empower young people. In doing so, we not only address unemployment but also inject fresh ideas and energy into the agricultural sector, driving innovation and growth.
